Climate Action Project: Fuel-efficient cook stoves in Uganda
Discover how Uganda’s Fuel-efficient Cookstoves Project is making a significant impact in the fight against climate change by reducing emissions, enhancing air quality, and promoting a more sustainable lifestyle.
About one-third of the global population still uses hazardous cooking fuels like charcoal, firewood, and animal dung—practices that harm health and drive climate change. Explore how Uganda’s Fuel-efficient Cookstoves Project is addressing these challenges by lowering emissions, improving air quality, and supporting a more sustainable way of living.
Cooking Challenges Around the World
In many parts of the world, access to safe and affordable energy is still out of reach for low-income communities, forcing families to rely on polluting and inefficient cooking methods. This burden falls especially hard on women, who are most often responsible for preparing meals. With support from global partnerships and local programs, greener cooking solutions can be made accessible to the 2.3 billion people still without safer options, offering affordable, sustainable choices that enhance health and change lives for the better.
Uganda’s Fuel-Efficient Cookstoves Initiative
In Uganda, the Fuel-Efficient Cookstoves Project is making a real difference by providing families with stoves that last at least five years and use significantly less fuel. These durable stoves can reduce charcoal consumption by over half, helping households save money and cut down harmful smoke. Plus, because they’re made locally, the project supports job creation and boosts the community’s economy.
Changing Lives with Fuel-Efficient Cookstoves
Fuel-efficient cookstoves offer more than just reduced emissions - they help households save money, shorten cooking times, and decrease the frequency of fuel collection. This extra time allows families to focus on priorities such as education, healthcare, and income generation. By empowering women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by energy challenges yet play a vital role in driving solutions, this initiative fosters meaningful and sustainable community development.
Our climate action impact
In collaboration with Ecologi, we’ve been actively supporting reforestation and carbon reduction efforts worldwide. To date, we’ve planted 28,635 trees, prevented 387.92 tonnes of CO2e from entering the atmosphere, and removed 27 tonnes of CO2e from the atmosphere. Additionally, we’ve restored 44.44m² of habitat to support local biodiversity—all reflecting our ongoing commitment to building a more sustainable future.
